PVC cores (Polyvinyl Chloride)

Plastic core extrusion

The Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) cores designed by ABI Profils combine high compression strength, dimensional stability and excellent versatility.

Thanks to their strong mechanical and thermal performance, they deliver optimal reliability, even in environments exposed to significant temperature variations.

Available in standard or custom dimensions, our PVC cores are suited to the most demanding industrial applications.

Applications

Applications

PVC cores are used across many industrial sectors where robustness and dimensional precision are essential:

  • Technical film industry: Ideal for winding plastic films requiring excellent stability and perfectly consistent dimensions.
  • Textile sector: Suitable for winding fabrics, films or adhesive tapes thanks to their light weight and high compression resistance.
  • Agricultural sector: Used for winding agricultural films, withstanding temperature variations and exposure to chemicals.
  • Other industrial sectors: Perfect for demanding environments requiring chemical resistance, thermal stability and long-term mechanical durability.

Key properties

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is a thermoplastic polymer from the vinyl family, obtained through the polymerisation of vinyl chloride.

Its dense, rigid structure provides excellent mechanical resistance, high dimensional stability and strong chemical and thermal resistance.

It is a benchmark material for cores exposed to heavy mechanical loads or demanding environments.

Main technical properties:

  • High compression strength: maintains its shape and rigidity even under heavy loads
  • Dimensional stability: very low dimensional variation, ideal for applications requiring constant precision
  • Chemical resistance: unaffected by most acids, bases, oils and industrial solvents
  • Controlled thermal behaviour: typical service temperature between –10°C and +60°C depending on formulation
  • Electrical insulation: excellent dielectric properties for technical environments
  • Smooth, homogeneous surface: ensures easy winding and a high-quality finish
  • Durability and recyclability: robust, 100% recyclable material supporting a responsible environmental approach

PVC offers an excellent rigidity / cost / durability ratio, making it a versatile solution for multiple industries.

PVC variants and additives

To adapt PVC to the specific constraints of each application, ABI Profils works with several formulations and technical variants:

  • Rigid PVC: the most common version, offering high rigidity and excellent compression strength
  • Impact-modified PVC (PVC-CI): enriched with elastomers for better impact absorption and improved cold resistance
  • Mass-coloured PVC: uniform colouring for an aesthetic, wear-resistant and UV-stable finish
  • UV-stabilised PVC: designed for outdoor use, limiting yellowing and ageing
  • Mineral-reinforced PVC: addition of mineral fillers (calcium carbonate, talc) to increase rigidity and thermal stability
  • Recycled PVC: produced from regenerated materials, ensuring an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution without compromising quality

These variants allow ABI Profils to fine-tune PVC formulation to your exact mechanical, thermal, aesthetic and environmental requirements.

Manufacturing process and quality

Manufacturing process and quality

PVC cores are manufactured through plastic extrusion, a process ensuring perfect consistency and reliable performance.

The material is melted, homogenised and pushed through a calibrated extrusion die to obtain the required geometry.

With 15 mono- and twin-screw extrusion lines, we can adapt our production capacity from prototypes to large-series manufacturing.

Each batch is fully traceable, inspected and compliant with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
