Polypropylene (PP) Cores

Plastic core extrusion

Lightweight, durable and high-performance plastic cores designed to meet the highest industrial requirements.

ABI Profils’ Polypropylene (PP) cores are engineered to offer excellent mechanical strength, controlled thermal stability and high versatility.

Thanks to their lightness and rigidity, they are perfectly suited to industrial applications requiring long-lasting performance, such as the winding of plastic films, sheets or technical textiles.

Our cores are available in a wide range of standard or made-to-measure dimensions, with smooth or grooved inner finishes.

Applications

Applications

PP cores are particularly suitable for industrial environments requiring rigidity and consistent dimensional stability:

  • Plastic film industry: Heat-resistant PP cores are ideal for winding technical plastic films exposed to thermal variations.
  • Food industry: As a safe material compliant with food-contact regulations, PP is suitable for films and sheets intended for direct or indirect contact with food products.
  • General industrial applications: Polypropylene is widely used in environments requiring lightness, rigidity and chemical resistance.

Key properties

Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic polymer belonging to the polyolefin family, like HDPE.

Its semi-crystalline structure provides an excellent balance of rigidity, lightness and thermal resistance.

It is a reference material for manufacturing cores subjected to moderate mechanical and thermal stresses, offering good chemical resistance and remarkable durability.

Main technical properties:

  • Density: approx. 0.90 g/cm³ — lighter than HDPE, facilitating handling
  • Balanced mechanical strength: good rigidity combined with controlled flexibility, ideal for film winding
  • Heat resistance: withstands continuous temperatures up to 100 °C with excellent dimensional stability
  • Chemical resistance: unaffected by most acids, bases, solvents and oils
  • Food-contact compliant: meets European regulations (EU Regulation No. 10/2011)
  • Lightweight and durable: reduced weight, good fatigue resistance and long service life
  • Recyclability: 100% recyclable, supporting a circular-economy approach

These features make PP a versatile material ideally suited to industrial, logistics and food-processing environments.

PP variants and possible fillers

To meet the specific requirements of each application, ABI Profils works with a wide range of technical formulations and functional additives:

  • Virgin PP: premium grade offering maximum surface quality and mechanical stability, ideal for food or technical applications
  • Recycled PP: material-recovery grade that reduces environmental impact without compromising mechanical performance
  • UV stabilisers: protect the material from light-induced degradation and extend outdoor durability
  • Mineral fillers (talc, calcium carbonate): increase rigidity, improve heat resistance and reduce deformation
  • Antistatic additives: reduce dust attraction and prevent electrostatic discharge in sensitive environments
  • Custom colouring: mass pigmentation for easy identification or specific aesthetic requirements

Thanks to this expertise, ABI Profils tailors each PP formulation to your mechanical, thermal and regulatory constraints, ensuring high-performance, safe and durable plastic cores.

Manufacturing process and quality

Manufacturing process and quality

The molten material is homogenised, calibrated and cooled under strict control to ensure consistent performance from batch to batch.

With 15 mono- and twin-screw extrusion lines, we adapt our production capacity to your needs, from prototype to large-scale production.

Every batch is traceable, inspected and compliant with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
