High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Cores

Plastic core extrusion

High-performance, durable and custom-made plastic cores for demanding industrial sectors.

Our technical HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) cores are designed to combine robustness, lightness, chemical inertness and food-contact compliance.

With our expertise in tubular extrusion, we manufacture cores in most standard diameters as well as fully customised versions, with smooth or grooved inner surfaces and all laize (width) lengths.

They offer a durable, hygienic alternative to cardboard cores, providing superior longevity and excellent mechanical performance.

Applications

Applications

Our HDPE cores are used across a wide range of industrial sectors: sont utilisés dans de nombreux secteurs industriels :

  • Food industry: winding food-grade plastic films and packaging compliant with food-contact regulations
  • Textile industry: cores for fibres, nonwovens and technical fabrics
  • Technical adhesives: suitable for products requiring rigidity and tight dimensional tolerances
  • Medical & pharmaceutical: supports for sterile films and technical packaging
  • Industrial packaging: winding of films, tapes, sleeves and plastic supports

Key properties

HDPE is a thermoplastic polymer from the polyolefin family.

Its linear, dense molecular structure provides high rigidity, excellent impact resistance, and strong chemical and thermal stability.

These characteristics make it a benchmark material for cores subjected to repeated mechanical stress or demanding environments.

Main technical properties

  • Impact and deformation resistance: density 0.94–0.97 g/cm³, high rigidity and controlled elasticity
  • Moisture and corrosion resistance: HDPE is impermeable, non-porous and resistant to chemicals, acids, solvents and alkalis
  • Chemical inertness & food safety: compliant with European food-contact regulation (EU No. 10/2011)
  • Lightweight and durable: low density, easy to handle and long-lasting
  • Recyclability: 100% recyclable material supporting circular-economy practices

HDPE variants and additives

To meet the specific requirements of each sector, ABI Profils works with technical formulations and functional additives:

  • Virgin HDPE: premium quality for medical and food applications
  • Recycled HDPE: regenerated material for improved environmental impact
  • UV stabilisers: enhance durability in outdoor or high-light-exposure environments
  • Mineral fillers (talc, calcium carbonate): increase rigidity and thermal resistance
  • Antistatic additives: reduce dust adhesion and prevent electrostatic discharges
  • Custom colours: mass-colouring available for identification or aesthetic finish

Thanks to this expertise, ABI Profils adjusts each HDPE formulation to your mechanical, thermal, aesthetic and regulatory constraints.

Manufacturing process and quality

Manufacturing process and quality

HDPE cores are extruded on high-performance lines ensuring consistent quality and precise tolerances.

The material is melted, homogenised and extruded through a calibrated die to guarantee dimensional consistency, a uniform surface finish and optimal resistance.

Our 15 mono- and twin-screw extrusion lines provide flexible and controlled production, suitable for both large industrial series and specific requirements.

Every batch is traceable, inspected and compliant with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
