High-quality coextruded profiles with innovative processes
Plastics have become indispensable in industry. Using state-of-the-art extrusion techniques, we produce co-extruded, tri-extruded and post-extruded plastic profiles for a wide range of applications.
What is co-extrusion?
Co-extrusion is a continuous process in which two plastic materials are forced through a die. It consists of assembling two plastic polymers by chemical bonding. An extruder and a co-extruder are needed for this process. This makes it possible, for example, to manufacture parts made of rigid and flexible materials, or parts in two different colours, using a special die with two feed channels.
This process makes it possible to create dual functionality to meet the requirements of the specifications. Once extruded, as in the conventional process, the profile undergoes an industry-standard calibration and cooling process, ensuring high-quality finished products and optimum performance.
What is tri-extrusion?
Tri-extrusion is also a polymer transformation process in which 3 distinct materials are simultaneously extruded to form a single product by chemical bonding. This technique makes it possible to obtain combinations of properties such as rigidity, flexibility and chemical barriers. These properties are optimised to suit specific applications.
The polymers are extruded through a die equipped with a main extruder and two co-extruders, allowing perfect adhesion between the different polymers without compromising structural integrity. Plastic tri-extrusion enables the creation of complex products with specific properties, opening up new horizons in terms of design and manufacturing. d This is part of a process of innovation and customisation of your plastic solutions.
What is post-extrusion?
Post-extrusion is an advanced technique for manufacturing technical plastic profiles, enabling the creation of complex products with specific properties. It meets specific aesthetic, design and technical requirements for plastic profiles.
It involves manufacturing a plastic profile or tube in two separate extrusion stages:
The first stage is the extrusion of the first section. In this initial phase, the often rigid base of the product is extruded. This section undergoes the standard extrusion process, being cooled and calibrated to achieve the required dimensions and characteristics.
The second stage is the addition of a second material by co/tri-extrusion. Once the first section has been stabilised, a co-extruder adds a second or third, often softer, material to finalise the profile. This additional material can impart specific functional properties to the product (sealing, clipping, softness/hardness or colours).
Finally, the whole product is cooled and stabilised to ensure that all sections and materials adhere correctly and that the final product meets the customer’s quality standards and technical specifications.
At ABI Profiles, we guarantee a profile that meets your needs by offering versatile, functional and efficient solutions for a variety of industrial applications. With co-extrusion, tri-extrusion and post-extrusion, we can tailor the characteristics of multi-material plastic profiles to your specific requirements.

Examples of plastics used for coextruded profiles
Various plastic polymers can be used to extrude our profiles. The type of material will be determined according to your specifications. With over 40 years’ experience, ABI Profils will put its technical know-how at your service, and our materials engineers will be on hand to help you choose the materials you need. Each plastic has specific properties that make it suitable for its field of application. Here are the different materials available: PVC, PP, PP FV, PE, PMMA, SEBS, PC, PA, PA FV, ABS, PS, PETG, ASA, TPV, TPU and many others.
Below are a few examples of the plastics we use and their properties:
SEBS, a thermoplastic elastomer, which has rubber-like properties while being heat and UV resistant.
PVC is an ideal material for a variety of industrial processes and is suitable for many uses, thanks to its excellent durability and chemical resistance. It can be used in both rigid and flexible forms, and is available in a range of hardnesses (40 shore A to 40 shore D).
“Whatever the material, we can colour all coextruded profiles according to the matching system (RAL or Pentone). This means you can easily comply with your design guidelines. Our coextruded plastic profiles are also available in transparent and opaque versions.”
We develop custom co-extruded plastic profiles
The engineers at ABI Profils design coextruded plastic profiles to meet your specific requirements. From special geometric shapes to demanding material requirements, we find the technical solutions to your specifications.
ABI Profils services are available throughout the process, from specification to industrialisation.
Here is an outline of the various stages in the development of your plastic profiles:
